Your first appointment is an opportunity for you to meet with your periodontist and to exchange information. The specialist will have already conferred with your dentist and will ask you for information about your health and your medical history. He will also be interested in issues regarding you lifestyle and other preferences you may have that will help determine the timing, duration and other aspects of your treatment.


At your consultation, you should be prepared to:

• Complete a comprehensive health history
• Have a comprehensive periodontal examination accomplished by the periodontist
• Have additional X-rays taken as necessary to supplement those supplied by your general dentist
• Ask questions and learn as much as you can about your periodontal condition and treatment plan

After you meet with the periodontist, you are welcome to talk to any member of the administrative staff about financial arrangements, insurance billing, or other issues related to your periodontal care.
